Dark Chocolate Orange Snake Cake Recipe
Ingredients –
250g butter, chopped
1 cup water
1/2 cup orange juice
1 cup caster sugar
35g cocoa powder
100g Callebaut Dark Chocolate chips
Zest of one orange, finely grated
1 2/3 cups plain flour & 1 tsp baking soda
Orange syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
Zest of 1 orange
1/2 cup orange juice
Method –
- Preheat oven to 160C
- Combine the butter, water, orange juice, sugar, cocoa powder and chocolate together in a saucepan.
- Place over gentle heat. Bring to the boil while stirring. You need to stir until everything has dissolved. Simmer gently for 5 minutes.
- Remove from the heat. Add the orange zest. Cover with a lid and leave to cool to room temperature (about 1 hour).
- Sift flour and baking soda together.
- Gently whisk in the flour and bi-carb soda into the cooled liquid. Whisk until all lumps are removed.
- Brush butter onto the non-stick baking pan. Sift flour on it all over. Or you can use butter paper in the pan.
- Pour batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake at 160C for 80 mins.
- Make the orange syrup topping while the cake is baking. Mix water and sugar all the together and heat it for 3-5 mins. Then add orange zest and juice and keep heating for 2-3 mins. Keep it aside.
- Remove the cake from the oven. Let it cool in the pan for 10 mins. Carefully turn out the cake on to your serving plate.
- Pour orange syrup on the cake evenly.
- Top with chocolate ganache (butter + chocolate chips melted together) and decorate as you want.
